Meeting open with a welcome from PTO President Mrs. Hill. The reading of the minutes was read by Mrs. Murphy. To amend and clear up information about Academic Games, Mrs. Hill asked when academic games will start; per Mrs. McAfee all coaches are still in training. Permission slips should be available next week and an official date will be determined. Surveys will also be created and sent to Ms. Banks for website. After that, all minutes were read and approved by present parent body, none apposed.
Mr. Harrold, 8th grade teacher spoke and presented information about the 8th grade senior trip and dues. A handout was given to parents present (see parent book for detail information).
Mr. George Waters, Vice President of the Board, Welcome parents’ ideas and their collaboration to work with the board. Mr. Waters asked that parents consider topics that interest them and things they would like to talk about that would encourage more parents to come to parent meetings. Mr. Waters made himself available to the parent PTO and welcome feedback that he could take to the board in hopes of making Joy Preparatory Academy a wonderful school for our students.
Search for a Treasure: Mrs. Hill, made mention we are in need of a new Secretary and Treasurer. She explained the position duties and asked for volunteers. As a result, Ms. Shaniqua Timberlake “Nikki”, volunteered for the position of Secretary/Treasurer. Ms. Timberlake noted she will help out until a permanent person for Treasurer can be found.
Winter Festival planning: is schedule for December 22, 2011 at St. Gregory Church during regular school hours. Parents are welcome to attend. Times will be announced in the school newsletter. Parent PTO will also be selling bake goods the day of the event.
Bale Sale Donation: Asking if all families can donate individually wrapped bake goods to help with the fundraising efforts. All items will be sold to help raise money for the kindergarten & 8th grade graduations. The donated items will be stored in the school refrigerator. All donated items can be turned into your child’s classroom teacher and then will be forward to designated person at Dexter.
Student Led Tutoring-TBD (TO BE DISCUSSED) at the next meeting. A determination will be made about further tutoring program after the next student benchmark.
Parent Survey- will be available on the web-site after its creation and critic.

Ms. Dowdell said that a School Yearbook will be available this year. The price range will be $9.00 or $10.00. She asked that the Parent PTO be available to take pictures for the yearbook. A date will be announced at a later time.
