Alvin Weir has a calling to invest in the lives of young boys and girls through a holistic approach. He is a Paraprofessional and Interventionist at Joy Preparatory Academy, with the role of assisting instructors in accomplishing daily educational objectives, and providing small group intervention and progress monitoring for at-risk students.
Alvin can be described as someone who enjoys “touching the world”, or engaging people, cultures, and experiences across the globe. Born and raised in the City of Detroit, he was blessed through his tenure in the United States Air Force to travel to locations such as South Korea, Japan, and Germany. It was in Japan where Alvin planted some of his primitive roots in the education field, where he was an English Instructor to Japanese students for over three years. He later went on to work as a Certified Tutor in the Communities In Schools (CIS) program in Wichita Falls, TX, the largest dropout intervention program in the country.
The world is smaller due to facets such as technology. Alvin believes it is important for the young scholars at Joy Preparatory Academy to be prepared to thrive in a global society. Through building relationships, and developing the whole person, he hopes to inspire these scholars to create and maximize opportunities to successfully “touch” the world”.
